Mapletree Scores with Another Successful Charity Futsal Challenge
March 21, 2018
  • Second edition of the Mapletree Futsal Challenge at Mapletree Business City
  • Together with tenants, Mapletree successfully raised S$6,000 for youth intervention programmes

SINGAPORE – Following the success of the inaugural Mapletree Futsal Challenge last year, Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree”) and its tenants scored again with the second edition of the challenge on 16 March 2018. It is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Mapletree to generate funds for youth intervention programmes managed by Beyond Social Services (“Beyond”), and YouthReach (an affiliate of Boys’ Town), which are both local Voluntary Welfare Organisations (“VWOs”).

Opened to tenants from Mapletree Business City (“MBC) and PSA Building, Mapletree matched donations from participating companies one-for-one, bringing the total funds raised to S$6,000. Each company pledged a donation of S$500 to participate.

Held at Mapletree Business City (“MBC”), one of Mapletree’s flagship developments, the Mapletree Futsal Challenge featured a new format this year with the introduction of two categories – open and youth. The open category saw eight teams comprising six MBC tenants (Equinix, Fitness First, Google, GovTech, and Nike), one from Mapletree and one team from a tertiary institution (Singapore Management University). Four youth teams – two from Beyond, and two from YouthReach, took to the pitch in the youth category.

“We were very encouraged by the enthusiastic response from our tenants last year, and we are pleased to continue this joint fundraising effort for a second year. The Mapletree Futsal Challenge is an opportunity for us to partner like-minded tenants with similar CSR focus areas and together, we can make a greater positive impact to the community,” said Mr Hiew Yoon Khong, Group Chief Executive Officer, Mapletree Investments.

“I had a lot of fun playing futsal and also learnt the importance of teamwork and communicating with my teammates. I always enjoy myself at the futsal events organised by Mapletree!” said Muhammad Nazrul, 13, a youth beneficiary from Beyond Social Services.

To date, Mapletree has contributed more than S$680,000 to support the education, sports and arts programmes of local VWOs, especially with a focus on assisting youths from challenging financial backgrounds. Mapletree will continue to support at-risk youths in Singapore, as part of our CSR efforts.
